About Falconry
The Art of falconry simply means hunting quarry with trained birds of prey. It is believed hunting with birds of prey started as early as 2000-2200 BC in China
Falconry was in introduced to Europe by the Germanic tribes, however it is almost certain that the Romans learned falconry from the greeks.
Falconry in the Roman empire does not appear to have been popular. There is evidence that suggests Julius Caesar used falcons to destroy pigeons carrying messages of his enemies.
Falconry became most popular in medival Europe between years of 500-1500 and by the middle of the 18th century falconry began to decline in England and most of europe .It was around this time that other methods were used to kill animals such as the firearm.
In Asia and the middle east falconry continued to gain momentum for many years.
The use of hawks and falcons is still today spread throughout many countries and in England fellow countryman frequently fly birds of prey together with the use of trained dogs to flush their game.
It is important to continue to promote this historic sport for many years to come and long may it continue for our children and theirs!
